This year’s crop of two-year-olds were out and about preparing for their racing seasons on Saturday in a total of 21 baby races at Mohawk Racetrack and the Meadowlands
.
In Campbellville, Ontario, 12 baby races were contested with Windsong Grand Ave turning in the fastest performance winning her qualifier in 1:58.2 for trainer John Kopas and owners Bill and Harry Loyens.
With Jack Moiseyev at the lines, the Camluck – Jasper Avenue filly won her second qualifier after finishing sixth in her first outing in 2:02.3. Windsong Grand Ave, who was a $36,000 Canadian Open sale purchase, carved out panels of :29.4, :59.2 and 1:29.4 en route to victory by two and a half lengths over Heavenly Ash (Roger Mayotte). Windows Online (Anthony Haughan) rounded out the top three.
Switching to the trot, Warrawee Lassie won her second outing in 2:02.4 for trainer and part-owner Frank O’Reilly after rallying from fourth in the stretch. The Kadabra – Independent Lassie filly, who was driven by Rick Zeron, won by five and a half lengths over Random Strike (Chris Chistoforou) while Pretty Amigo (Blair Burgess) finished third.

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Delmarvalous rolled through panels of :29, :58.4 and 1:28.2 before unleashing a :26.3 final frame to win the fastest qualifier of the day in 1:55.1. Beignet (Tim Tetrick) finished two and a half lengths back in second with Lord Terror (Ron Pierce) finishing third.
The Badlands Hanover – Prymetyme Scootie colt, who was a $25,000 NJ Classic sale purchase, won for the second time in qualifying action for trainer and co-owner George Teague, Jr.
On the trot, Brittany Farms’s Photo Charm and Brian Sears sat in the pocket until the halfway point before taking charge and pulling away by three and a half lengths to win in 2:01.1 for trainer Trond Smedshammer. Cessna Hanover (Tim Tetrick) and Fleetfoot Hanover (Trond Smedshammer).
The daughter of Sjs Photo-Dream Cabernet won her first qualifier in mid-June and finished seventh after breaking stride in her first pari-mutuel start last week at the Meadowlands.
