Sophomore pacing fillies were featured as part of New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) action on Tuesday night (July 30) at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
There were two divisions for the state’s top sophomore fillies that went for purses of $90,050 and $88,450 on the 14-race card and the favourites thrived.
Zero Tolerance (Heston Blue Chip-Feelinglikeastar-Artiscape) continued her dominance in the Sires Stake ranks for three-year-old pacing fillies and wound up as a wrapped-up winner for Hall of Famer Dave Miller, who was in town to drive for trainer Joe Holloway. Zero Tolerance was the 1-9 betting favourite in her division of the NYSS and she made it look easy. Miller moved her out to the early lead in the $90,050 event and cruised to an open-length win in 1:53.4 over a track labeled "sloppy". JK American Beauty was the runner-up to the big favourite while Sulky Queen earned the show spot. The victory was the fourth of the year for the super soph Zero Tolerance with all four scores coming in NYSS action.
The other division of the NYSS for top pacing fillies went for a purse of $88,450 and saw So Awesome (So Surreal-Teddy Ballgirl-Kassa Branca) prevail. Tyler Buter piloted the Scott Di Domenico-trained filly who drew the pylons. After coasting through a first half in :57.4, So Awesome cruised home to score in 1:53.4. A Saratoga track record holder from last year’s local sire stakes try when she won in 1:53.3, So Awesome proved up to the task in her sophomore-season local stakes score. Longshot Hurrikane Norakane came on for second while DD Delicious finished third. So Awesome was the public’s 2-5 betting choice in what was her third win in ten starts in her 2019 campaign.
Live racing continues on Wednesday night, July 31 with a first post time set for 7:05 p.m.
