Trainer/driver Ed Harvey stepped to the front of the class and Meter Leader prevailed in the top-class contest during Fredericton Raceway’s Thursday, July 30 program of live racing.
Harvey continued his winning ways at Fredericton on Thursday, as he piloted three consecutive winners on the card. He started in Race 3 with the pacing mare Couleur Magnifique, who he steered to a gate-to-wire 2:02.1 triumph for owner Eric Lakes.
Harvey was back in the winner’s circle after Race 4, as Star Collector earned a hard-fought victory in 2:02.2. Harvey co-owns the horse with Kevin Legge of Onslow, NS.
Darth Bader went the trip of the night in Race 5, as he survived interference, a break in stride and broken equipment to come back to win in deep stretch for Harvey. The time of the mile was 2:03.3. Even more impressive, the horse was last at the half-mile marker after a pedestrian-like opening fractions by Grimsby, who was steered by Todd Trites.
The top class of the evening was won by Trites and Meter Leader. The pacer led at every point of the mile. The win time was 1:59. The victory snapped Fall Bliss' win streak at four.
