New Judge For Attractions Hippiques Hearing

A new judge, as yet unnamed, will adjudicate the final chapter of the Attractions Hippiques asset liquidation on August 24

.

Quebec Court of Appeal Judge Pierre Dalphond has ruled that questions raised by lawyers for the provincial horsemen's association warranted the replacement of Superior Court Judge Chantal Corriveau until they're dealt with at a hearing in October.

That means a substitute will handle the Superior Court hearing August 24 when Attractions Hippiques' final plan of arrangement to creditors is due to be submitted and the fate of the racetracks in Trois-Rivieres and Quebec City will be revealed.

Judge Corriveau has presided over the case almost exclusively since Attractions Hippiques entered creditor protection in June of 2008. The ruling does not undo legal procedures completed to this point. Attractions Hippiques, which operated Quebec's four racetracks, has put all its assets up for bids, and the trustee and lending syndicate currently are weighing the offers.
