There was no stopping Melody Maker on his quest for six straight wins at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon (July 30).
Driven by Dale Spence, the Greg MacInnis-trained and owned pacer stopped the clock in 1:54.4 for his sixth straight win while stepping up to the $3,500 Preferred class.
Melody Maker was the 2-5 favourite from the inside post and looped back to the lead after a :27.1 opening quarter once outside leaver Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) cleared. From there, the five-year-old son of Hes Watching set middle splits of :55.4 and 1:25.2 with Spence urging him home to the 2-1/4-length victory. Frontier Cruise (Brady Sweet) closed late to nab the runner-up honours over Sauble Attack.
Melody Maker has made nine seasonal starts and his current streak accounts for all of his wins this year. The victory completed a grand slam on the day for Spence.
Brett Clow celebrated his first career training win on Sunday as the 18-year-old New Haven, P.E.I. horseman worked out a perfect pocket trip for pacing filly Red Dirt Diamond in the $2,300 fourth race for maidens.
Driving his own trainee, Clow yielded to Futures Diablo (Taylor Doyle) through a :30.1 first quarter and tracked in the two-hole through a half in 1:02 and three-quarters in 1:33.3 with favourite Lady Willa (Spence) challenging first-over. Clow timed it perfectly as he sent Red Dirt Diamond to the passing lane and defeated that pair by a neck in 2:03.3. It was just the second driving win for Clow.
Deanna Clow owns the three-year-old Source Of Pride filly, who won her 13th career start.
Live harness racing continues on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
