Ideal Perception was taking a serious class drop Friday evening at Grand River Raceway, and with a serious class drop came a serious display of speed.
In rein to Anthony Haughan, Ideal Perception powered to the lead from Post 1 and powered through fractions of :26.2, :53.4 and 1:21.4 before using a :29.2 closing panel to win by 14-1/4 lengths over Jack Of Clubs in a career-best clocking of 1:51.1. Music To My Gears was third.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite in the $6,000 conditioned event, the Anthony Beaton trainee improved his 2021 record to 2-1-1 from 12 assignments with the win. The four-year-old son of American Ideal-Southwind Siren is an eight-time winner with earnings in excess of $156,000.
The mile time established a new local standard for older pacing horses, and was just two-fifths of a second off the overall older pacing track record of 1:50.4 set by Rare Jewel.
