On a Friday morning with some serious heat in the forecast, Beachside Caroline caught some rays and rode a wave of warmth into the fastest mile during the session of baby races at Woodbine Mohawk Park on July 3.
Beachside Caroline made every call a winning one for driver Tyler Jones and trainer Luc Blais. After an opening quarter of :30.2 and half mile reached in :59.3, Beachside Caroline picked up the tempo in the back half of the baby race. With three-quarters reached in 1:27.2, Beachside Caroline repelled a late challenge from Bulldog Belle (driven by James MacDonald) to win by half a length in 1:55.2, with Shotgun Annie recovering after some rough steps in the stretch for driver Doug McNair to complete the top trio.
A daughter of Papi Rob Hanover-Shady Caroline, Beachside Caroline is owned by Determination of Montreal, Que. after a $131,944 transaction secured the yearling in Lexington last fall. The filly was bred by Hot Lead Farm of Allentown, N.J,
Green Silverado showed some serious acceleration in her morning test, a 1:58 winner as the fastest trotter of the session. Sitting second in the first quarter, put up by Roma Lee Armitage (Gino Toscani) in :31, Green Silverado went to the fast lane for driver MacDonald down the backstretch and cleared easily before a 1:00.1 half. Up by six at the 1:29.1 third station, Green Silverado chugged home in :28.4 to win by 6-1/2 lengths. Emma Deo (Jones) closed well to finish second, with D A Adele (Dave Boughton) another 6-1/2 lengths back in third.
Matt Trelford of Mildmay, Ont. owns and trains Green Silverado, a daughter of Green Manalishi S out of Little Red Chev. The filly was a $22,000 London Classic yearling, bred by Dennis Morrissey of London and David James Peden of Dorchester, Ont.
