Prairie Westerngal took the featured $12,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Tioga Downs on Sunday (July 3).
Prairie Westerngal forged her way to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. Alta Madeira N took over control as they headed to the stands for the first time and was first to the half in :56.1. Georgie came first over as they headed down the backstretch. Alta Madeira N led to three-quarters in 1:24.
As they reached the stretch, Alta Madeira N continue to lead as Georgie kept coming and Prairie Westerngal found an opening near the pylons. They were three across the track as Prairie Westerngal slipped by to win in 1:52.2. Alta Madeira N had to settle for second. Georgie was third best.
Prairie Westerngal is a six-year-old mare by Western Ideal. She is owned by Joel Warner, Patricia Fitz, and trainer Mike Deters. It was her third win this season and her 25th victory overall. Braxton Boyd drove the $10.40 winner.
Boyd drove three winners on the card. He got his other wins with Defon Seelster ($18.80), and Joint Account ($3.60). John Hallett and Randy Taft had training doubles. Hallett got his wins with Joint Account, and Cherish Hanover ($14.00). Taft was first with Abbie Rose ($23.00), and Sususussudio ($3.60). Aaron Byron had a driving double on the day.
Tioga Downs returns to Live racing on Monday (July 4) with an 11-race card starting at 6:15 p.m. (EDT). Fireworks will follow live racing.
