Fillies Flock To Fraserville This Saturday

Published: July 3, 2013 12:11 am EDT

Four of broodmare Sahalee’s offspring have earned more than $100,000 for owner-breeder Edward Wilson, and the Seagrave resident will be assessing Jamandra’s potential when the two-year-old trotting filly makes her Grassroots debut at Kawartha Downs on Saturday, July 6.

Jamandra will make her debut from Post 5 in the third $18,000 Grassroots division and heads into the test off a pair of qualifying miles at Mohawk Racetrack where she finished second (June 1) and third (June 22) over an off track. Trotting specialist Trevor Ritchie will steer the filly for Wilson and his partner Michael Pozefsky of Saratoga Springs, NY.

A half-sister to three-year-old trotting filly Legzy — who was a Gold Final winner at Kawartha Downs last July — Jamandra is a full sister to Sahalee’s top earner Wilsonator, who banked $496,049 in her career. The Kadabra daughter is trained by Rob Fellows, who also trained her elder sisters.

Newcastle resident Mike Smith is also heading to Kawartha with a filly hoping to follow in her elder sister’s footsteps. T Swift, a half-sister to $141,760 winner Justasmalltowngirl, makes her debut from Post 2 in the third division and gets the driving services of Hastings resident Dagfin Henriksen.

Bred and owned by Smith, Mr Lavec daughter T Swift made an error in her first qualifying attempt at Kawartha Downs on June 15, but she rebounded with a steady effort at Mohawk Racetrack on July 22.

The two-year-old trotting fillies will compete in Races 2, 4, 6, and 8 on Kawartha Downs’ Saturday evening program, which gets under way at 7 p.m.
