Euphoria Seelster lowered the Northside Downs track record for aged pacing mares with her wire-to-wire romp in a condition pace on Saturday afternoon in North Sydney, N.S.
Leaving from the inside post position in the ninth race with Ryan Campbell aboard, Euphoria Seelster set up shop on the front end and carved out fractions of :29.2, :59.3, and 1:28.4 en route to the 1:57 triumph. The mile time shaved one-fifth of a second off Abby Best's 2008 track record.
Eileens David (Kevin Bailey) finished second off a pocket trip over three lengths behind while Loch Monster (Robert Wadden Jr.) rounded out the top three finishers nearly seven lengths back.
Euphoria Seelster paid $3.40 to win as the fan favourite. The six-year-old Modern Art mare is trained by Steven Lewis and owned by Dan Lewis of Blacketts Lake, N.S. The win was her fourth in 16 seasonal starts and 16th lifetime.
