Back at her home track after a successful stateside stint in Grand Circuit stakes action, four-year-old pacing mare Silver Label turned in a 1:48.4 career-best victory on Friday night (July 28) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sent postward as the overwhelming 1-5 favourite in Friday's $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred, Silver Label made her move from third approaching the third quarter pole in rein to Doug McNair and wore down pacesetter Dabarndawgswatchin (:26.4, :55.1, 1:22.1) in deep stretch to win by a neck with a :26 final frame. Western Wish finished 1-3/4 lengths back in third off the pocket trip.
Following an O'Brien Award-winning sophomore campaign, Silver Label now has six wins and $270,704 banked from 11 starts this year for trainer Nick Gallucci and owner/breeder Millar Farms.
The four-year-old Bettors Delight-Hidden Gem mare shaved one-fifth of a second off her lifetime mark she had taken in the Perfect Sting Stakes at The Meadowlands on Canada Day. She now has 18 career wins from 33 starts and more than $1.1 million in earnings.
Silver Label returned $2.40 to win and $2.10 to place. There was no show wagering.
