Rolling to the lead just past the first quarter, odds-on favourite Major Custard maintained control while kicking to a 1:55.1 victory in the $30,400 Alberta Plainsman Final at Century Downs on Tuesday (July 28).

Driver Brandon Campbell cleared Major Custard to the front following a :27.1 first quarter, pocketing Chazmichaelmichael. Trip Hammer soon tipped first over from third and rushed towards the pacesetter heading to a :57.1 half, prompting Major Custard to accelerate. Marching to three-quarters in 1:24.3, Trip Hammer lost ground as Major Custard began to pull away. Chazmichaelmichael gave pursuit from the pocket as Criminal Record rallied off cover through the stretch. The pair chased Major Custard to the finish, hitting the wire in a dead heat two lengths behind the winner.

A three-year-old gelding by Custard The Dragon, Major Custard collected his eighth win from 10 starts, passing $100,000 in earnings towards a $111,700 bankroll for owners J J J Stables and Jim Marino. Michael Campbell conditions the $3.90 winner.
