There was no shortage of speed when the Glamour Boys invaded Mohawk Racetrack for a set of Monday evening Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series divisions – each worth $105,000.
Prince Clyde got away slowly before finishing with a bang in the first division. The son of Camluck-Tymal Princess got away seventh for driver James MacDonald, who watched Boomboom Ballykeel and Silverhill Shadow take turns on the lead through panels of :26, :53.3 and 1:22.1. Prince Clyde tracked cover in the backstretch and around the final turn, and when MacDonald tipped off cover the gelding roared home in :27.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Speckled Door in a career-best clocking of 1:50.3. Silverhill Shadow tired late and wound up third.
Anthony Montini trains the nine-time winner for Holland Racing Stable of Niagara On The Lake and Albina Montini of Acton, Ontario. The pacer pushed his 2014 bankroll over $100,000 with the win, while his lifetime total climbed to $154,761.
Jet Airway never saw the rail in the second division, but it didn’t stop him from nabbing his fourth win of the season. The speedy son of Jeremes Jet-Aromatic lived on the rim while Three Of Clubs dictated the terms of the tempo through fractions of :27.1, :56 and 1:23.3. Jet Airway was second-over turning for home, and when driver Randy Waples pulled the trigger the colt responded by sprinting home in :26.4 en route to posting the win by a quarter of a length over a dead-game Play It Again Sam, who did the first-over work. Three Of Clubs faded to finish third.
Tony Alagna trains the seven-time winner for Ervin Miller Stable Inc, Tangie Massey, Paul Sunderhaus and Larry Agle. Fresh off a fifth-place finish in the Meadowlands Pace, the pacer upped his 2014 earnings to $164,793 with the win while his lifetime loot rose to $227,292.
