Trainer Brian Lee of Shaws Creek Stables in Orangeville, Ont. said it best, horses get hot and cold, and Chevron Hanover is hot right now
.
Hot is an understatement as the seven-year-old son of Astreos-Cheyenna Mae set two track records in just over a week.
Stuart Sowerby drove Chevron Hanover to victory in a conditioner at Woodstock Raceway on Tuesday, July 20 in 1:53.4, and duplicated the time at Hanover in the $10,000 Preferred 2 Pace on Wednesday night, setting the new all-aged track record at Hanover, closing with a :28.3 final quarter.
Lee says he’s very happy to see his pupil set the track record, adding it's something you can be proud of.
Chevron Hanover led from start to finish hitting the quarter pole in :27.2, the half in :56.4, and the three-quarter pole in 1:25.1 before kicking away by five and a half lengths in the stretch to seal the deal. The time of the mile shaved two-fifths of a second of Lyons Geoff’s former record. Pacific Oak (Ken Oliver) was the runner-up and Mcartlee (Anthony Haughan) finished third.
Lee says Sowerby gets along very well with the horse, and obviously Chevron Hanover gets along well with Sowerby.
Sent postward as the popular choice, Chevron Hanover returned $4.40 to his backers for a $2 win ticket.
