Four-year-old pacing mare Woodmere Dancenart and trainer/drive Clare MacDonald pulled off a mild 7-1 upset as they beat the boys in the $950 Inverness Gathering Pace on Wednesday evening (July 27) at Inverness Raceway.
With the inside post advantage, Schooner (Alex MacQuarrie) established the lead over Euchred (Walter Walker) through the opening quarter in :29.1. As he proceeded to the half in :57.4, Tiger Town (Lewis MacDonell) moved from fifth flushing Woodmere Dancenart and MacDonald first over out of the three-hole. Woodmere Dancenart overtook Schooner as they raced by three-quarters in 1:28.1 before a battle ensued down the stretch as Tiger Town pounced off the cover. In the end, Woodmere Dancenart managed to hold off Tiger Town for the half-length victory in 1:58.1. Favourite Surrealist (Randy Getto) closed from the backfield to finish third, three and a half lengths behind the $16.10 winner. Euchred and Schooner completed the top five finish order.
Woodmere Dancenart earned her fourth win of the year from 14 starts. MacDonald trains and drives the four-year-old Articulator mare, who is owned by Morah Kerr, Greenfield, N.S. and Phonsie MacEachern if Port Hood, N.S.
