Team Mason ruled the Saturday, July 26 program at Miami Fair, with trainer Sherri Mason and driver Darryl Mason getting four winners home on the eight-race card, including Hurry Home in the $5,100 Fillies and Mares Open Pace.
Hurry Home, coming off a place finish in her seasonal debut, went straight to the front and never relinquished the lead. The Mystician-One Hot Majorette mare led at :29, :59.1, and 1:28.1 panels and held off Outlaw Spiced Rum (Glenn Le Drew) by a length to prevail in 1:59.3. Nonversation (Rick Remillard) was third.
Hurry Home earned her 16th lifetime victory in 154 appearances and upped her earnings to $108,960. Darryl Mason, a resident of Killarney, Man. owns the eight-year-old.
The Masons kicked off the card — the second of two this year at Miami Fair — with Fan C That ($9.30), who held off Tina La Vida (Le Drew) to win in 1:58.4. After a near-miss in the second, Treasure Horizon ($4.60) took the fourth race in 2:00.1. Sherri Mason earned her training triple as Acquired Taste ($3.60) captured the seventh race in 2:03.3, and Hurry Home completed the grand slam.
Sherri Mason is now five-for-12 on the season with 10 on-the-board finishes. The Killarney resident is coming off her winningest season since 2011 and is already over a third of the way to surpassing that total this year.
Ginger Tree Finny crushed his opponents in the $5,300 Horses and Geldings Open Pace for the second straight week to stay undefeated in Manitoba.
The gelding made his second start for trainer Melanie Rey Clark even more dominant than the first. Piloted by Michel Rey, he wired his four rivals in 2:00, cutting :30, 1:00.3, and 1:29.3 fractions and leaving the rest behind in the final quarter in an eight-length romp. Two Shoes (Marc Fillion) was best of the rest, holding on for second over Subzero (Glenn Le Drew).
Ginger Tree Finny, who journeyed to the province after his May 30 start for owner Laverne Turnbull of Kitchener, Ont., is now four-for-11 this year. The seven-year-old Captaintreacherous-Ideal Weather gelding has won 17 of his 101 lifetime starts and earned $137,728.
Manitoba racing will now shift to The Loop, with the first of 10 scheduled cards set for August 2.
