Captain PV extended his win streak to five with a career-best victory in the second leg of the Breeders Trophy Series for three-year-old trotters at Hippodrome 3R on Friday, July 26.
Leaving from post two in the $10,000 division for colts and geldings, 1-2 favourite Captain PV and driver Marie-Claude Auger went right to the front with Last Try (Jerome Lombart) sitting the two-hole trip. They went by the opening quarter-mile in :28.4 then the half-mile in :59.3 as Drinklikehenry (William Roy) was parked out first-over to no avail. In the backstretch, Wild Dream Men (Guy Gagnon) went three-wide around Drinklikehenry and dropped in the two-hole behind Captain PV by three-quarters in 1:29.3. Captain PV continued to lead the way into the stretch and went on to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:59.2. Wild Dream Men was second with HP Run Detector (Robert Shepherd) completing the top three finish order nine lengths back.
Captain PV earned a new lifetime mark with his fifth win in eight starts this year for trainer Serge Nadeau, who co-owns the Wheeling N Dealin-Dolly P V colt with Ecuries Y Corriveau Inc. He paid $3 to win.
In the filly division, MVPs Daughter upset heavy 1-5 favourite Sensi Amnesia for trainer/driver Jerome Lombart.
Sensi Amnesia and trainer/driver Auger went right to the lead with 8-1 second choice MVPs Daughter and Lombart sitting on their backs through fractions of :29.3, 1:00 and 1:30.2. Lombart then sent MVPs Daughter after Sensi Amnesia and those two battled it out around the final turn. MVPs Daughter dug in and beat Sensi Amnesia at the wire by three-quarters of a length in 2:00.2. HP Agathe (Pascal Berube) finished nearly seven lengths behind in third.
Lombart also owns and bred the My MVP-Promising Lavec filly, who now has two wins from nine seasonal starts. A runner-up to Sensi Amnesia in the opening leg of the series on July 12, MVPs Daughter returned $19.20 for the mild upset this time out.
In this week's $6,500 Preferred Handicap Trot, Frido PV and driver Pascal Berube had little trouble wiring the field by a diminishing half a length in 1:59.2 over the late-closing favourite, Only For Justice (Francis Picard), with X O X O (Denis St. Pierre) third. A first-time winner this year, the seven-year-old Muscle Mass-Justi P V stallion paid $12.60 as the 5-1 third choice. He is trained by Yves St. Jacques for owner Les Ecuries Vym Inc.
Live harness racing resumes at 3R on Sunday, July 28 with first race post time at 12 noon. The program will include the second round of the Breeders Trophy Series for the pacers with four divisions featuring return winners Boomboom Tonight, The Heart Valley and Olaf Du Lac.

So are the trotting hopples on backwards and crisscrossed? If so very inventive.
