A narrow win by Sieras Rose in Sunday's (July 26) featured Mares Preferred Handicap gave Charles Gaudreault command of the trainer standings for the 2020 season at Hippodrome 3R.

Sophies Cam (Stephane Brosseau) was first on the lead with Hammering Haley (Francis Picard) grabbing the two-hole to the opening quarter in :27.4 before last week’s winner, T C Easy and driver Steeven Genois, swung to the outside to clear the lead before the half in :57.1.

That was when Hammering Haley came back out to challenge for the lead, with Sieras Rose (Pierre-Luc Roy) second-over. But before the three-quarters in 1:26.4, Hammering Haley was able to drop into the two-hole behind Y C Easy, leaving Sieras Rose uncovered.

In a four-horse battle down the stretch, Sieras Rose was up to the task, collaring the leaders and going on to win by a neck in 1:58. Hammering Haley was second with Y C Easy third.

It was the second win in five starts this year for Sieras Rose ($5.40), an eight-year-old mare by No Pan Intended owned by Steve Perreault.

Gaudreault also won the second race, as his Moonbeam Godro made his pari-mutuel debut a winning one with driver Pascal Berube.

Leaving from post four, Berube sent the two-year-old So Surreal colt to the front, taking command from Erins Somewhere (Marc Belander) by the opening quarter and never looked back.

Favourite Realxample (Richard Veilleux) tried to attack first-over on the backstretch but to no avail, as Moonbeam Godro won by a half-length in 2:03. Realxample was second with Erins Somewhere third.

Moombeam Godro ($6.70) is owned and trained by Gaudreault.

With his two training wins, Gaudreault is now the leading trainer at H3R with seven wins. Serge Nadeau also had two training wins and moved into a tie for second place in the trainer standings with five wins along with Michel Allard and Maxime Velaye.
