John McDermott, Jennifer Lauer and Maja Bown, selected as winners of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ) Scholarships for 2014, received their plaques and cheques in winner’s circle ceremonies at The Meadowlands on Friday, July 25.
Each winner received $2,500. Making the presentations were SBOANJ directors Ed Razzetti and Dennis Lane along with Backstretch Community Assistance Program Executive Director Chris Samaha.
McDermott, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, recently completed his first year at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he is pursuing a degree in business administration.
Lauer, of Hightstown, New Jersey, attends East Stroudsburg University and aspires to be a veterinarian.
Maja Bown, a graduate of West Orange High School, will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall.
