Freshman pacers and trotters were on display in six of the nine qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday morning, July 25 with Lainey Blu and Bob From Hockey topping their respective pace and trot classes.

Of the four classes for two-year-old pacers, Lainey Blue and Jody Jamieson posted the fastest time with a 1:56 mile in their field of five. Jamieson urged the Rod Boyd student out of the gate from post four and to the top, opening up by 2-1/4 lengths over their foes at the first quarter in :29.1. Lainey Blu maintained her lead through the half in :59.1 and three-quarters in 1:28.1. With a surge to complete the mile, Lainey Blu opened up to score by 9-1/4 lengths in 1:56, clocking a final quarter in :27.4. Isle B Bulldogbeth (Louis-Philippe Roy) finished second with Weslyn Hanover (James MacDonald) third.

Lainey Blu is a freshman daughter of Captaintreacherous and the Art Major mare Pleasant Beauty. She is owned by James Fraleigh of Dresden, Ont.

A pair of freshman trot classes were featured in the qualifying session and Bob From Hockey used a gate-to-wire performance to win in the swifter time of the two divisions. Travis Henry and the Rick Zeron student left from post six in the field of seven, secured the early lead and never looked back as he controlled the tempo in :30.2, 1:01 and 1:30.3. With a final quarter in :29, Bob From Hockey continued home to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:59.3. Beau Knight (James MacDonald) was second and My Ghost (Louis-Philippe Roy) was third.

Rick Zeron Stables, James Walker, Jeffrey Ruch and Dean Lockhart bred and co-own Bob From Hockey, a gelded son of Trixton and the Chapter Seven mare Chapter Heaven.
