Sixteen freshmen fillies squared off in a set of In Free Stakes eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening, with the top five finishers from each of the trotting affairs advancing to next week’s final

.

Its All Magic brushed to the lead in the backstretch and never looked back from that point on for the tandem of driver Randy Waples and trainer Phil Coole. Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, the daughter of Kadabra-All Time Favorite cruised to a comfortable win in 1:59.4 over Kylie Hall and Princess Fortune.

It was a maiden-breaking win for the second time starter, who is owned by Coole and partner Don Leschied of North Woodslee, ON. The first foal out of a full-sister to Fan Favourite (1:56.3 - $539,916) was a $15,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale.

Gisela AS used off-the-pace tactics to break her maiden in the second elimination for the combination of driver Jason Brewer and trainer Anette Lorentzon. The daughter of Infinitif-Golden Door Lindy tracked cover in the backstretch before making a three-wide move around the final turn. She powered by the leaders and drew clear to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Idonette. Third prize went to a hard-closing Bavarde.

ACL Stuteri AB of Paris, KY bred and own Gisela AS who finished fifth in her first lifetime start. An interesting note is the fact her dam’s sire is none other than the sport’s fastest pacer, Cambest.

Here’s the field for the final:
