Porthill Alf, owned by Marvyn Webster of Tyne Valley, P.E.I., won the Canada Games Pace in 1:56.2 Saturday night at the Charlottetown Driving Park
Entertainment Centre. Whos Smiling Now was second for Jason Hughes while pacesetter Pans O Silver and Brian MacPhee held on to complete the triactor.
Driven by Michael Stevenson, Porthill Alf settled into the pocket behind Pans O Silver, who left hard off the gate to take the lead and set up a rocketing opening quarter of :27.3. The half-mile marker was charted at :57.4 with the third panel reached in 1:27.1. Stevenson angled the Duane MacEachern pupil out for the stretch drive and outpaced Whos Smiling Now for the victory. Pans O Silver faded to third.
It was a big night for Stevenson. The New Brunswick driver, now based on P.E.I., had four winners on the card. He opened the program with Classie Cammie (2:00) for trainer Travis Wilkie, then clicked with his pupil Valeader (1:59.1) and closed the night with Pictonian Leo (1:59.3) for trainer Wade Sorrie.
Kenny Murphy, Jason Hughes and Gary Chappell recorded driving doubles on the program.
