Freshmen Impress In Ohio Sires

Summer Touch left no doubt she was much the best in Friday’s first of three $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies at Scioto Downs.

Trained by Ronnie Burke, the daughter of Well Said paced through fractions of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:26.2 before stopping the timer in 1:54.2 for driver Chris Page, who notched his 81st victory of the summer meet at Scioto Downs. Summer Touch, the 7-5 choice, had finished second to Leave Her Wild in Leg One of the four-round series. Leave Her Wild (Mike Wilder) finished second to Summer Touch at 8-5, with She Knows It All (Brett Miller) third at 18-1.

The homebred Summer Touch, who is owned by Burke Racing, Knox Services, Slaughter Racing and Weaver Bruscemi, now has $30,000 in career earnings.

Sentimental stole the second OSS filly division for driver Tyler Smith and trainer John Ackley in a new lifetime mark of 1:53.2. The daughter of The Panderosa was bred by Marvin Raber and is owned by the CT Stables of Washington Court House, Ohio. It was her second victory in this series, as she captured her Leg One in 1:56.1. and now has $43,750 in career earnings.

The gutsy 25-1 longshot Dont Trip was second with owner-trainer-driver Ronnie Gillespie in the sulky, with even money favourite Lady Arthur (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) third.

Rainy Day Chic made her Ohio Sires Stakes debut a winning one for owner Marjorie Polhamus, stopping the timer in 1:54.1 with driver Brett Miller at the lines. Trained by Dan O’Mara, the daughter of Rockin Amadeus made every post a winning one and pushed her career earnings to $31,781 with her third career triumph as the 5-1 choice.

Free Thinker, the 1-1 favourite, was second for Chris Page, while 10-1 longshot Lady Sconset was third for Mike Wilder.
