Sharp Edge extended his domination of the Meadows’ trotting elite Tuesday with a front-end score — his third straight victory — in the $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot.
Assigned the outside post, Sharp Edge wrested the early lead from Sir Caviar and held off that rival late, prevailing by a neck in 1:54 over a sloppy surface. Wind Surfer was third. Tony Hall drove for trainer Bruce Riegle and owner Robert Kauffman.
Sharp Edge, a five-year-old son of Jailhouse Jesse-Ten Queens who won but a single race last year, now has five victories and two seconds in his last seven starts, and he boasts $172,386 in career earnings.
Dave Palone drove four winners on the 16-race card while Tony Hall and Mike Wilder each fashioned a three-bagger.
Grand Circuit action resumes Wednesday at The Meadows with the 6:30 p.m. draw for post positions for Saturday’s final of the $650,000 Delvin Miller Adios and a 15-race card featuring three divisions of the $60,000 Henry Oliver for freshman colt and gelding trotters. First post is 6:55 p.m.
In addition, The Meadows will celebrate “Dave Palone Night” to honour Palone for becoming the “winningest” driver in North American harness racing history. Fans will receive free Dave Palone hats and keepsake journals, and a special video tribute — as well as the Adios draw — will air on Meadows Live.
