Driver Gilles Barrieau won early and he won often during Tuesday evening’s 11-race card at Fredericton Raceway.
The sulky sitter from Saint John, New Brunswick, who took the opener with Perfect Approach in 1:59.2, went on to win four more races to bring his nightly win total to five.
What made the feat more impressive was the fact that Barrieau captured four consecutive dashes beginning in Race 6 with Kaylas Sophia (1:59). Next up was Texas Treasure (1:59.4) in Race 7 followed by Jessies Whim (2:02.1) and Ideal Ticket (1:59.4) in Races 8 and 9, respectively.
Barrieau leads all reinsmen at Fredericton Raceway with 27 trips to the winner’s circle. Todd Trites, who is second in the standings, has made 16 visits to victory lane at the half-mile oval this season.
The career winner of 3,558 races and purse earnings in excess of $6.4 million has manufactured a UDR of more than .400 in each of the last seven seasons, and this year he’s humming along with a UDR of .444 by the end of Tuesday evening.
