Driver John MacDonald went on a winning rampage at Rideau Carleton Raceway nearly catching leading driver Guy Gagnon in the track's standings after recording two wins early on and then scoring five straight victories later
for a total of seven during the Sunday night 15-race program.
MacDonald got the ball rolling in the third race aboard the Brenda Spence-trained Isnt He Lucky ($7.80) and scored another win two races later with J V S Ring ($7.10) for trainer Gary McDonald, who won three races on the card.
The resident of Russell, Ont. began his five-race win streak with his own pupil Firethorn ($9.30) in the 10th race and then guided Mythic Voyage ($4.30) to his sixth consecutive victory for trainer Arshad Afzal. MacDonald also scored with Ideal Artist ($13.60) for Matthew McDonald, Back From The Past ($5.50) for Ronald MacDonald, and Xexy ($3.50), also for Matthew McDonald.
MacDonald would have tied Gagnon atop the drivers standings with his seven wins, but Gagnon picked up one victory during the card to maintain the slight edge.
MacDonald is en route to recording his sixth straight million dollar season in the sulky. He has won 156 races this year and 2,153 lifetime for total earnings of over $10.9 million.
