New York Sire Stakes ladies return downstate Tuesday night, with Yonkers Raceway hosting the $215,800 Scarsdale Trot for three-year-old fillies
.
Five, $43,160 divisions--three included in the 13-race card (Taces 5, 6 and 8) and two early non-bettors (at 6 and 6:15 p.m.)--go postward.
The first wagering event might be the most intriguing, since none of the seven lasses has won a sire stakes event this season.
New Hampshire Girl (Ray Schnittker, Post 3), a daughter of Conway Hall, had hit the board in her last four tries before breaking at Goshen (her second race there in three days). Mymomsablizzard (Steve Smith, Post 4), a daughter of CR Excalibur, has been in-the-money in nine of her dozen '09 tries.
Tuesday night's second Scarsdale event includes Social Butterfly (Schnittker, Post 3), a Credit Winner lass with four wins and more than $52,000 in her column this season. Ur Theonethatiwant (Gates Brunet, Post 1) turned a few heads with a maiden-breaking, 1:57.3 Late Closer blowout at Saratoga in her most recent try.
The final betting board features Contag Way (John Stark Jr., Post 4), No Ifs Here (Schnittker, Post 5) and Porque (Jeff Gregory, Post 6). Contag Way, a daughter of Conway Hall, and Porque, a daughter of Plesac, are both career six-figure earners. No Ifs Here, another Conway Hall lass, has a pair of seconds and a pair of thirds in her six seasonal starts.
Big Sky Angelina (Jim Meittinis, Post 3) has certainly chosen some good nights to have some good nights. The Malabar Man miss has won twice in seven career tries--both in NYSS competition--at odds of 11-1 (Saratoga '08) and 19-1 (Yonkers last month).
If you want to see the best the state to offer in this sewing circle, you'd better get here early. Division standout Brandnewgirlfriend drew post No. 5 in the second look-but-don't-touch non-wagering event.
The daughter of Conway Hall, co-owned by (trainer) Paul Kelley, Jim Winske, Stephen Michaels and East Pond Stable, has rolled to five consecutive handy victories--including a pair of NYSS events at Yonkers last month. Boone Mattison takes his usual seat.
"Girlfriend" returns after a pair of open stakes wins at Tioga, easily in both her $45,447 division of the Zweig Filly Trot and $39,9093 division of the Tompkins-Geers.
For the season, Brandnewgirlfriend--unraced at two--has won eight of her nine tries ($110,709). The $80,000 yearling is officially playing with house money.
