Mark MacDonald mapped out a perfect second-over trip for Kg Katriona to post a 14-1 upset in the featured $40,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack

.

Kg Katriona got away last from Post 5 in the six-horse affair as Four Starzz Meliss (Randy Waples) hustled off the gate from the far outside. Refusing to sit a pocket trip, the favoured Pink Kangaroo (Steve Condren) brushed to command at the first quarter in :27.3 and led the field past the half in :57 and three-quarters in 1:25.1.

By the midway point, Quail Seelster (Luc Ouellette) had launched a first-over bid providing Kg Katriona with cover. Pacing home in :27-seconds, Kg Katriona got up in late stretch for the 1:52.4 score over a track rated good.

Blissful Smile (Mike Saftic) closed well from the back of the pack to finish three-quarters of a length behind and Marietta Hall (Sylvain Filion) came on for third.

The seven-year-old Jennas Beach Boy-Artful mare is trained and co-owned by Casie Coleman and Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont. Kg Katriona won for the sixth time this season in 23 starts lifting her earnings to $131,900. The career winner of 32 races has banked a total of $740,620.
