Future Stars Series Set To Kick Off

The harness racing limelight will be on the young trotters Tuesday evening at the Hippodrome 3R with the opening round of the Future Stars Series for two-year-olds.

Before the start of the race card Tuesday, there will be a special ceremony service for Quebec horseman, Mario Lachance, who passed away on Saturday.

The Future Stars Series will feature three weeks of preliminary competition with the top eight point earners returning on Sunday, September 9 for their respective $55,000 finals.

The trotting colts get underway in the third race where a homebred son of Muscle Mass, Cesar Duharas, will be center stage. Trained and driven by Stuart Sowerby, this youngster is shipping in for the Series from Ontario, where just last week he won at Woodbine Mohawk Park in a sizzling 1:59.4.

Bred and owned by Haras De L Estrie Inc of Dunham, QC, Cesar Duharas will likely be the heavy race favourite provided he can handle the turns on a half mile track. He will start from post six.

One of the contenders in the field is Y A Titan from post eight for driver Stephane Gendron. This son of E L Titan just made his first pari-mutuel start last week at Georgian Downs for trainer Michel Allard and was a game second-place finisher. Other hopefuls include SOS Turbo (post one) and Clevisse (post three).

The fillies’ division features an entry from trainer Serge Nadeau of My Lady Hall (post one) and Claudi P V (post two). Both fillies have already won on the Quebec Regional Fair Circuit. They are co-owned and were bred by Nadeau with Marcel Brouillard of St-Marcel-De-Richelieu.

Kinderunbelievable goes from post four for top team of driver Justin Filion and breeder, owner and trainer Denitza Petrova of Melbourne. She is sired by Archangel and is a half sister to the stakes winning and invitational trotter (he races Tuesday in the 7th race), Kinnder Dangerous. Rounding out the field from post three is The Only Somolie for driver, owner, breeder, Jerome Lombart of Bromont.

Because of the entry and only four fillies entered in the race, it will be held as a non-wagering event between the 5th and 6th races on the program.

First race post time Tuesday is 6:30 p.m. For a free race program, visit www.quebecjockeyclub.com.
