Princess Dorleans converted from the pocket to win her first Manitoba start for trainer-driver Dallas McGee in the $1,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Sunday at Miami Fair.
Princess Dorleans followed Power Maid and Travis Cullen through fractions of :29.3, 1:00.3, and 1:29.4 before taking over command in the stretch and then holding off Dealingwithhos and Ron Cullen to win in 2:02.3. The top three finishers were separated by just half a length.
The four-year-old Shanghai Phil mare has travelled from Quebec to Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba while putting together a record reading 8-4-12 in 42 starts and banking $51,653. She is owned by Dallas and Lottie McGee of Deloraine, MB and Verne Rea of Calgary, Alta.
Kevin Hildebrandt earned his first training triumph on Saturday's card when six-year-old gelding Meadowlarks Legacy rallied three-wide and wore down pacesetter Lovely Rain in 2:04.3. Philip Giesbrecht drove the son of Badlands Hanover as part of his Saturday grand slam. Meadowlarks Legacy was making his fourth start for the 17-year-old Roseau River, MB resident.
The Manitoba Fair circuit returns to Holland Fair next weekend with live racing scheduled for Saturday, July 28 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m.
