Murmur Hanover marched to the front and didn’t look back en route to manufacturing a 1:57.1 victory in Monday’s $130,000 OSS Gold Series Final for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Mohawk Racetrack.
With Mario Baillargeon at the controls, Murmur Hanover shot to immediate command from Post 2 and successfully sped through panels of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.3 before stepping home in :29.3 to halt the teletimer in a career-best clocking of 1:57.1. Runner-up Secret Ingredient was 3-1/2 lengths in arrears, with Sparky Gypsy rounding out the top three in the rich affair.
Race favourite Kinetic King enjoyed a two-hole trip to the top of the lane before rolling into a break for the length of the stretch. He was fourth, but placed seventh, for failing to continuously lose ground while off stride.
Ben Baillargeon trains the son of Majestic Son-Mrs Ronerail, who was sent off as the 5-2 second choice in the wagering, for owner R Berthiaume Inc of Point-Aux-Trembles, QC. The youngster was purchased for $70,000 from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale. He’s out of a full sister to Dr Ronerail (1:52.1 - $768,725).
