Racetrack At Florida Airport?

According to Florida State documents, there could one day be a racetrack at Miami International Airport

.

An article by miamiherald.com states that the push from county administrators to get slot machines installed at the airport could mean that a quarter-horse racetrack would have to be build at the airport due to technicalities.

Legislation passed by lawmakers this year allows slot machines at quarter-horse racetracks in Miami-Dade County. If slots are to be installed at the airport, a racetrack must be part of the deal, although according to the report, both do not have to take place at the same location, technically.

The article states that the airport is looking to strike a deal with a local track to have the races run at the pre-existing facility. If such an arrangement cannot be struck, there is a possibility of a track being erected in the parking lot of the airport.

"The site is sufficient to accommodate a J-loop track that will allow for races of distances generally conducted at quarter horse race meets,'' the county's application with the state's Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering states.

According to the report, state regulators have yet to "weigh in" on the situation.
