Dan Patch Award winner Apex, who is expected to race next in the Hambletonian eliminations, held the top spot in the Week 12 edition of the "Road to the Hambletonian" while his Marcus Melander stablemate American Power moved up to second off his record setting all-age Vernon Downs track record victory of 1:50 in this past Sunday's Grade 2 Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial Trot.
Others moving up in the rankings include Big Ranger, ranked No. 4, after his romp in 1:51.4 at Scioto Downs after a 35-day layoff and Nix Nacken, now No. 7, after a strong third (race timed in 1:50.2) in the Zweig Memorial.
The Top 10 rankings are compiled by Meadowlands Racetrack's Ken Warkentin each week leading up to the 101st edition of the Grade 1 Hambletonian, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8 at The Meadowlands.
