The Meadowlands racing office offers this outline of what is to come for the last two weeks of the track's Championship Meet.
Next weekend (July 29 & 30) is highlighted by the elimination races for the Peter Haughton and Jim Doherty Memorials for two-year-old trotting colts and fillies respectively on Friday.
Trainers, be aware that for the first time this year the winners of the final for both will be awarded special “Win and You’re In” eligibility to the Breeders Crown finals as described in the conditions and below;
The officially declared winner of the Peter Haughton/Jim Doherty Memorials, if they are Breeders Crown eligible as of June 1, 2022, will be eligible to advance directly to the final of their respective Breeders Crown divisions. They are also entitled to be put into the post position draw for the opportunity to draw between post 1 through 5, the same as elimination winners, if eliminations are required. The winner is not required to pay an entry fee and is not eligible to race in the elimination. They must enter at the prescribed time as all other entries and meet the qualifying standards as outlined in the conditions of Breeders Crown No. 36. The entry status is not transferable and only applies in the year of both events.
Saturday brings the eliminations for the Hambletonian and Oaks, along with the three-year-old Tompkins-Geers for pacers and fourth Miss Versatility leg. Several TrackMaster "Pop Up" series come back for the second leg next week with the finals on Hambo week.
There will be three days of live harness racing for the first week of of August, adding Thursday, August 4, so despite the second Kindergarten leg scheduled for Thursday and Friday there will be ample opportunity for overnight horses to get raced.
Trainers should be advised that when The Meadowlands returns on September 1, the condition sheet will likely include a few of the "Pop Up" series to support the New Jersey Classic Series which covers the three weeks of racing.
Qualifiers are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 25 in advance of the September live dates.
Horsepersons bringing horses in for stakes the last two weeks are reminded that they must submit a completed racing application and all drivers must be approved to race by applying with Jason Settlemoir at [email protected].
Find the next condition sheet online when posted.
