According to a Statistics Canada report, revenue from government-operated gaming fell in 2008 for the
first time in 16 years.
In 2007, revenue form government-run gaming rang in at $13.70 billion, while in 2008 that number reduced slightly to $13.67 billion.
The report also states that revenue from horse racing declined to $378 million in 2008. In 1992, revenue from horse racing sat at $532 million.
The report also states that casinos and slot machines located outside of casinos are growing in popularity and now account for 34 and 22 per cent of the gambling industry, respectively, while lotteries and VLTs dropped to 24 and 20 per cent of the business.
