Trotters Set For Rescheduled Monday Card At Summerside

On the heels of an all-time record wager on Governor’s Plate night, Red Shores Summerside will continue with a rescheduled Monday, July 22 evening card featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two and three-year-old trotters.

The western oval has 12 dashes scheduled for a 6 p.m. opening post time. The Saturday, July 20 program at Red Shores Summerside featured Twin B Tuffenuff winning the $35,000 Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, and had a record-smashing $179,967 wager on the night.

The P.E.I. Colt Stakes trot program was originally scheduled for July 16 with that program cancelled due to severe rainstorms.

The beat goes on for Monday as Mile Hill Waylon will start off his career in the first $13,000 division in race two. The son of Mile Hill Willie has Governor’s Plate winning driver Gilles Barrieau set to drive from post four in his P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot colt division for trainer Paul Morrison and owners John and Barbara Breau of Shediac Cape, N.B. His main rivals are morning line favourite Apollo Thirty Four (Marc Campbell) and Marcus Down Ridge (Clare MacDonald).

The other $13,000 two-year-old trot division in race nine will have Fire The Rocket favoured for trainer Ashley Gamester and owner Donald MacRae of Orwell, P.E.I. Jason Hughes is listed to drive the E L Rocket colt. Other top entries are Dusty Lane Gus (Campbell) and West River Jet (Ken MacDonald).

The $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot filly division is in race six. Supreme Rockette (Corey MacPherson) is the top choice from post three after winning her Atlantic Sires Stakes division at the Truro Raceway on July 5. Mike McGuigan trains the E L Rocket filly for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale, P.E.I. Her stablemate Oceanview Nikki (McGuigan) has post six after also winning her career debut.

The P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old colt trot division in race seven carries a $13,000 purse. Gettin Lit (McGuigan) will leave from post two as the favourite for owner Whalen. His competition includes Camco Laraido (Ken Murphy) and W L Roseys Rocket (Hughes).

Rocket Blast gets top billing in the race 10, $13,000 three-year-old colt trot division for driver MacPherson and owner/trainer Carl Bagnall. The E L Rocket colt has had a win, a second and a third from three starts in 2024 and will leave from post four on Monday. His competitors include Dusty Lane Darby (Adam Merner) and Howmac Swanky (McGuigan).

Oceanview Daisy has rail control in the lone three-year-old trot filly division for $13,000 in race four. Heffernan will drive for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owners Jackie Heffernan of Summerville, P.E.I., and Barry MacLeod of Cardigan, P.E.I. The E L Rocket filly set a track record in her last start at Truro Raceway, winning in 1:59.1. She will face off with last year’s Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Dusty Lane Wee (Marc Campbell), who has post three, along with Gettin Tipsy (McGuigan) from post four.
