Winding Hill and driver Jimmy Whittemore won the featured $9,500 Open Trot on Friday night (July 21) at Vernon Downs.
The six-year-old gelding by Here Comes Herbie, went to the front and went gate-to wire, putting up all the fractions :27.3, :57.2, 1:25.3 and 1:53.1. Lucid Thoughts (John MacDonald) followed the entire way but could never get to Winding Hill, who paid $7.20 to win.
Winding Hill, who is owned by Diane Whittemore and trained by Dennis Whittemore, won for the fifth time this season and earned career win number 25.
Lucid Thoughts finished second while Sweet Ashlsy T (Homer Hochstetler) settled for third.
Vernon's leading driver John MacDonald won three times on the night, giving him 60 wins for the season.
Racing returns to Vernon on Saturday night with a 13-race card starting at 6:45 p.m.
