2009 O’Brien Award finalist Gostreet was sensational in the $10,500 Preferred 2 Trot Wednesday evening at Grand River Raceway as she made her first Elora start this
year winning in a track record time of 1:57.
Leaving from Post 4, 14-1 Gostreet cleared the lead at the :27.4 opening quarter and opened up over two lengths on the field as she marched past intervals of :57 and 1:26.2. The six-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Rose Street Jewel held off the pocket pulling Countess Stormont (Jonathan Drury) to win by neck in 1:57. The time of the mile shaved four-fifths of a second off the track record for aged trotting mares, which she set in June 2009. Big Changes (Greg Dustin), sent postward as the longest shot on the board at 60-1, ducked down along the pylons to make it into the win photo finishing a half-length behind in third.
Gostreet returned $31.60 to her backers for a $2 win ticket as she notched her second victory in 11 tries this year. The 24-time career winner boasts over $30,000 in seasonal earnings and $292,945 lifetime for trainer-driver Lyle MacArthur and co-owners Linda Wellwood of St. George Brant and Tammy Aspden of Caistor Centre, ON.
Acceptable Risk picked up his second straight win in the co-featured $10,000 Preferred 2 Pace for trainer Dan Morrissey and owners David Morrissey of Ailsa Craig and Parkhill’s Daniel McCann and William Woodburn.
Driven by Trevor Henry, the 4-5 favourite left from Post 1 and carved out stations of :26.4, :56 and 1:24 while a parked out Part Shark (Scott Zeron) applied pressure with Ill Call U Back (Robert Shepherd) angling three-wide before the final turn. The seven-year-old son of Intrepid Seelster-Southernbound Lady held off a game Part Shark in the stretch to win by a half length in 1:52.4 -- Grand River's fastest mile of the season. Three Cents (Mike Langdon) was third over Ill Call U Back.
Acceptable Risk, a winner of seven races in 21 starts this year, has banked $62,427.
