Morning Line For First 'Jug' Future Wager

Published: July 21, 2009 02:16 pm EDT

Wagering on the first of three Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at 12:00 noon Thursday, July 23 at racetracks and internet sites throughout

North America. Future wagering will be offered through 11:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

North America Cup and Meadowlands Pace winner Well Said (2-1) is the morning line favourite in the future Jug pool. Co-owner Jeff Snyder said it’s a bit early, but he and his partner Susan Grange have the date of the 64th Little Brown Jug circled on the calendar. Steve Elliott is the trainer.

Art Colony, who was second to Well Said in both the elimination and final of the North America Cup, is next at odds of (4-1). Casie Coleman is the trainer. Dial Or Nodial, who captured the New Jersey Sires Stakes final and also won an elimination of the North America Cup, is 9-2 in the morning line. Jim Campbell is the trainer.

Wagers will be accepted at racetracks and on internet sites throughout North America and Europe. The future wager allows racing fans to bet early on all three-year-olds that are eligible to the Little Brown Jug. The minimum bet is $2 and all future wagers are 'win' betting only.

Complete past performance lines for all Jug eligibles will be available free on the Little Brown Jug website.

A team of racing analysts and handicappers selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was then assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the three future wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order.

All other three-year-olds were packaged together into one 'field' wager. The field will open at 10-1 odds. Every three-year-old in North America is included in the field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace on September 7 he can be supplemented into the Little Brown Jug.

The second future wagering pool will be from Thursday, August 27 through Sunday, August 30, the week before the Cane Pace final. The third future wagering pool opens at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20 through 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, the first four afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware, Ohio Fair.

The draw for post positions for the 2009 Little Brown Jug will be Saturday morning, September 19 in the log cabin on the backstretch of the fairgrounds. “This the fourth year our fans at the track here in Delaware will have the opportunity to place wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing.
