Harness racing returned to Manitoba's Miami Fair on Saturday, July 20 for the first of two summer Saturday cards of harness racing.
With racing cancelled at The Loop last week, the scheduled divisions of the Lady Crocus for three-year-old pacing fillies were contested as the feature on the Miami card. Both divisions had impressive winners, and both winners crossed the wire in 1:58.4.
Grit N Grace prevailed in the first division, featuring five fillies and a purse of $11,250. Dean Rey popped the pocket on favoured pacesetter Im Outrageous Too (Richard Remillard) after initial fractions of :29.1 and :59.2, then motored home to win by 11 lengths in her her maiden-breaking score. Lazar Mania (Michel Rey) and Im Outrageous Too rounded out the top trio.
Bred and owned by trainer Lorraine Rey, Grit N Grace (Im The Pied Piper - Dragonart) returned $8.60 to win.
Choozetocruise ($5.60) has found her stride as a sophomore, now two-for-two in 2024 after a six-start winless rookie season. Remillard sent the daughter of Lambretta - Kilo Dream to the front in her $11,050 Lady Crocus division and repelled all rivals, winning by more than seven in a lifetime best effort. Chasin Rainbows (Dean Rey) and Is He Watching (Michel rey) were next across the line.
Trevor Williams owns and trains Choozetocruise, now a winner of $11,610 in her career.
With the win from Choozetocruise, Trevor Williams concluded the card with a training triple. His previous Saturday wins came courtesy Texasdrifter and driver Marc Fillion ($13.40; 2:00.1) in the opener and Shots Fired ($8.60; 1:58.1) and Michel Rey in the fourth.
