Beachin Lindy was intent on holding on to his lead winning a hard-fought battle in the Saturday night (July 2) Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Stephen Charlton sent Beachin Lindy to the lead in the $3,500 Preferred Pace, striking the quarter in :29.1 over a rain-soaked track with a two-second variant. Charlton then eased his trainee through the second quarter, striking the half in :59.3 while being engaged by first-over No Plan Intended, who had a four-race win streak on the line. That front-stepping duo laid feet as fast as they could for the next lap around the historic half-mile oval, with three-quarters reached in 1:27.3.
Beachin Lindy never let his foe around him as he surged his head back to the lead in the stretch drive to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:55.4, pacing a back half of :56.1. No Plan Intended had his win streak snapped at four to finish second with Legendary Ron finishing third. Charlton owns the winning son of Somebeachsomewhere as he scored his fourth win of the season and his 23rd overall.
The Stacey Lund stable was perfect on the evening card with a pair of winners. Silverhilllightnin brushed up to win Race 10 of the card in 1:57.4 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Lund while Well Ell was a front-end winner in race 6 stopping the clock in 1:57.4 in line to Marc Campbell.
Live racing continues Thursday (July 7) and Saturday (July 9) at Red Shores Charlottetown and Friday evening (July 8) at Red Shores Summerside for the Governor’s Plate eliminations. All cards carry a 6:30 p.m. (ADT) opening post time.
