A two-year-old Ontario-sired filly that was purchased for $2,000 last year made her lifetime debut an impressive one by tying a track record and lowering her mark from her qualifier by nearly 10 seconds.
The 1:58.1 freshman filly trotting record at Northfield Park, set by Rose Run Keepsake and Steve Carter in 2008, was equaled Tuesday evening by Youre Majestic.
Youre Majestic, who was making her pari-mutuel debut, appeared to be an unlikely candidate to equal a track record. The program showed just a qualifier, in which she trotted her own mile in 2:07.2, but when the horses crossed the finish she came out on top and no other two year-old filly has ever trotted the ‘Flying Turns’ faster.
Gloria Gillis of Mansfield, Louisiana owns Youre Majestic, who is trained by Ladarrius Whitaker. Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. mapped out the winning trip for the youngster.
Youre Majestic, a daughter of Majestic Son-Youre Adorable, sat in a stalking position and let her competition carve ambitious fractions of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:28.2 before Wrenn tipped her inside at the top of the stretch. Youre Majestic responded like an experienced horse and bested her competition by a quarter of a length in 1:58.1.
Youre Majestic, who was the only freshman in the race, returned $27.40.
The victory was one of six on the night for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.
