Trevor Henry had a solid night at the office during Tuesday’s 11-race card at Georgian Downs thanks to a four-win performance that included sweeping the $7,000 Preferred events.
His win the $7,000 Preferred 3 for trotters was even sweeter considering he holds the papers on the winner, Angies Lucky Star. The stakes star, who was looking for her first win of the campaign, made a miscue behind the gate before resetting and making an enormous recovery in the late stages of the mile. The four-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Angie Blue Chip used a :29.2 closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Thor Seelster in 1:55.3. Brenway Dixie took home third prize in the eight-horse affair.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, Angies Lucky Star won for the eighth time in her career. The Richard Moreau pupil has banked $375,820 to date.
Henry also captured the $7,000 Preferred 3 for Filly & Mare pacers with Back Yard Baby. The six-year-old Mach Three-Tawnee Herbert miss laid down panels of :27, :56.1 and 1:24.3 before stepping home in :28.3 to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Wonderful Charm in 1:53.1. Dear Aryss rallied from far back to finish third.
The public hammered the John Curran trainee down to odds of 1-5, and the homebred didn’t disappoint her backers or owner Ken Curran of Coldwater, Ontario. It was her fourth win this season and the 11th of her career. She’s managed to pound away more than $165,000 in lifetime earnings.
