'Serge' Tops Manitoba Pacers Again

Harness racing in Manitoba shifted to Miami Fair for the Canada Day long weekend with Sergeirachpaninoff repeating in the Open class for trainer-driver Travis Cullen.

Fresh off an Open Pace victory last weekend at Holland Fair, Sergeirachpaninoff romped to another triumph in 2:00.1 over a 'good' surface rated one second slow on Sunday. The 10-year-old The Firepan-Take A Pander gelding won by nearly three lengths over pocket-sitter Yankee Mystique and Philip Giesbrecht while Outlaw Spider and Dallas McGee advanced from the back of the pack to show.

The veteran pacer now sports a 2012 record reading 2-1-1 in four starts for owner Annabelle Pirie of Strathclair, MB.

Trainer-driver Dean Rey was a force to be reckoned with during the weekend racing action as he won three of Sunday's eight races after picking up a pair of victories during Saturday's seven-dash card. Rey's Canada Day wins came aboard three-year-old filly pacers Dashin On By and the maiden-breaking Lundys Jet, and four-year-old pacer Kaanabba. One Sunday, he won with the undefeated pacers Night Motion (two-for-two during his sophomore year) and Donegal Jim (five-for-five as a four-year-old).
