Dan Charlino, one of two drivers injured in a race mishap Monday at The Meadows, has undergone a surgical procedure — and faces several more — to repair leg injuries suffered in the accident.
The other driver involved, Eric Goodell, was x-rayed for potential upper-body injuries but released when the x-rays proved negative. Goodell, 42, called off his Tuesday assignments.
According to horsemen and horsewomen who visited Charlino, 52, doctors at a Pittsburgh hospital stabilized his leg with a brace hours after the mishap.
Christen Pantaleano, a trainer at The Meadows who was among Charlino’s visitors, said a second surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and that a third, more involved procedure will occur at a later date.
“He was pretty beat,” Pantaleano said, “but he was pretty good, considering.”
