Rookies Spar In Round Two At Rideau

Two-year-olds were on display at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Monday afternoon, as the five-eighths mile oval featured second round action in a trio of series events

Here’s a recap of what transpired in each of them:

The Majestic Son Trotting Series

Super Lustre eked out a head decision in his $6,600 assignment for trainer/driver Denis Filion. The son of Southwind Lustre, who finished fifth in last week’s pari-mutuel debut, enjoyed a ground-saving trip before popping off the rail and using a :29.1 final frame to post the 2:06.1 score. Davignon, who was sent off as the 1-2 favourite, was second and Ready To Cruise finished third. Jules Sigler of Ottawa, ON bred and owns the colt, who pulled off the 12-1 upset.

Rocket Dream pulled off a 7-1 upset in the other $6,600 division for owner/trainer Normand Bardier, Jr. The son of Taurus Dream-Roxane Des Pres front-stepped to a 2:03.2 win over Onthemoneyside, with Musclemad taking home the show dough. The gelding is a homebred owned by Reve Avec Moi Dreamwithme of Knowlton, QC.

The Boys Of Summer Pacing Series

Safe Harbor, who was a 1:58.4 winner in last week’s pari-mutuel debut, kept his undefeated record intact thanks to a 1:59 triumph for trainer/driver Marcel Barrieau, who co-owns the son of Village Jolt-Light Up with Conrad Leber and Gestion Mastel Inc of Quebec. The pacer did the road work en route to the nose decision over Inferno Seelster. His stablemate/entrymate, Ideal Shark, was third.

Winning Dream made his first lifetime start a winning one in the second division for driver Sylvain Lacaille and trainer Chantal Duval. The son of Shanghai Phil-Western Sara rallied to win by 5-3/4 lengths in a time of 1:57.2. Milliondollarcell was second and P H Forty rounded out the top three in the $6,600 event. Reve Avec Moi Dreamwithme of Knowlton, QC bred and owns the colt.

The Frisky Fillies Pacing Series

Artistic M N M went down the road to win the lone division for the fillies in a time of 1:58.2 for trainer/driver Jason Gilchrist. The Real Artist-Matt N Mouse miss, who is owned by Gilchrist and partner Ron Berry of Nepean, ON, drew clear to win by 4-3/4 lengths over Shark Party and Ramadawn.
