Silent Swing established a new lifetime mark of 1:49.1 with his victory in the $50,000 Open Pace on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack

The seven-year-old gelding won the Des Smith on June 28 at Rideau Carleton Raceway, but last week faded to fifth as Bolero Charles upset in the Open at Mohawk. This week, the millionaire son of Northern Luck proved that he is in tip-top shape when he converted from a two-hole trip for driver Sylvain Filion to win by a neck over the favoured Bigtime Ball (Paul MacDonell).
Silent Swing established the early lead from Post 5 and put up a :26.3 first quarter, but settled for a pocket trip behind Bigtime Ball, who led the field through the remaining panels of :54 and 1:22. In the stretch, Silent Swing kicked into action and rolled home in :26.4 for the mild 5-1 upset. Longshot Lucky Man (Mark MacDonald) rounded out the top three.
Trained by Jean Louis Arsenault for David Shea of Campbellville, Ont. and Reginald Petitpas of Shediac Bridge, N.B., Silent Swing scored his fourth win in nine starts this year pushing his bankroll to $141,500.
