The freshman class of 2022 in the colt and gelding division paced its way into Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday evening for a set of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series divisions, and Write Me A Rose and Stockade Seelster came away victorious in their respective assignments.
Write Me A Rose, who was a perfect two-for-two entering his $101,300 division, rallied to a career-best clocking of 1:52.4 for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Rob Fellows.
Filion got away fifth with his charge while Ace Of Aces motored to the early lead and had the field chasing him to the quarter pole in :27.1. Heavily-favoured Moment Is Here then brushed to the top in the backstretch and proceeded to march the group to the half in :56.1. In a surprise move, longshot Scribblers sprinted out of the three-hole and darted to the front going into the final turn.
It was a move that ultimately backfired on both him and race favourite Moment Is Here, who ended up getting stuck behind that stopping foe shortly after the three-quarter indicator flashed up in 1:24.4. Write Me A Rose kicked off cover in the lane and stormed home in :27.2 to win by three lengths over Midnight Nation. Bettor Bea Terror closed from last to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 3-1, the son of Sportswriter-Caribbean Rose N pushed his lifetime earnings to $109,750 for owner/breeder Windermere Stable LLC of New York.
Stockade Seelster also remains undefeated thanks to his 1:52 triumph in the second division.
Jody Jamieson, who was paired up with the Dr. Ian Moore trainee, got away fifth with the 1-5 favourite while Coop A Loop shot to the top and supplied the field with an opening quarter clocked in :26.3. Stockade Seelster made a snap move in the backstretch, however, and he quickly jetted his way to the position of command.
He cleared and carved out middle splits of :55.3 and 1:24.3 before kicking home in :27.2 to win by three lengths over Coop A Loop. Closing from last to finish third was The Moment Arose.
