Kayla Habicht Walker's Euchred ($3.80) made his return to Nova Scotia a winning one, narrowly staving off pocket rival Thunder Alley in Sunday's (July 18) $1,250 winners-over pacing feature at Inverness Raceway.
The nine-year-old Shadow Play gelding cleared from the outside post in the six-horse field, sprinting off to lead Thunder Alley by 2-1/4 lengths through a :28.3 first quarter before Redmond Doucet tapped on the breaks. After rating middle splits of :58.1 and 1:27.3, Euchred faced a stern challenge from Thunder Alley off the home turn, but prevailed by a diminishing neck in 1:56.2 for his first seasonal win and the 64th of his career. Daddy Let Me Drive finished third, three lengths in arrears.
Walter Walker trains Euchred, who has won at least one race every year since 2015. Euchred's win capped doubles on the seven-race card for both Doucet and Walker.
