WEG circuit regular Famous Mark converted from the pocket to win Georgian Down’s featured $14,000 Preferred 2 Trot on Saturday night for driver Scott Coulter and trainer Ben Baillargeon
.
Benns Thunder (Anthony Haughan) carved out fractions of :27.1, :56.4 and 1:26.3 with Kan Wire (Dan Clements) right alongside applying heavy pressure. Stick Man Moe (Stephen Byron), who was following Kan Wire’s cover, went three-deep around the final turn and took a run at the tiring Benns Thunder, but a pocket-pulling Famous Mark kicked into high-gear to score for the third time in 18 starts this year. The son of Famously-R Markies Angel stopped the clock in 1:56.4 with favourite Think Gold finishing one length behind and Stick Man Moe rounding out the top three.
Famous Mark paid $6.80 to win as the 5-2 second choice. The seven-year-old gelding owned by Marcel Guy Ouimet of Laval, QC has earned $54,230 this season and $311,269 lifetime.
